First Lutheran Church takes seriously its responsibility to provide a safe and nurturing environment for persons of all ages who are entrusted to its care, particularly children. Our Safe Church Committee ensures that our Policies and Procedures for a Safe Church are followed in all of our ministries. 

• Staff members, Sunday School Teachers, and volunteers who work with children undergo a thorough criminal background check every year.
• When children are not with their parents, at least two adults are present with them. No adult, other than a parent or guardian, is to have unmonitored contact—out of sight and sound for more than two minutes—with a youth without the parent or guardian’s knowledge.
• Staff, teachers, volunteers, and anyone with a key to the building are mandated to report suspected child abuse.
